Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite Round' is a highly sought-after, miniature cultivar that combines the ultra-compact size of Anubias 'Petite' with distinctively circular, coin-like leaves. It is one of the smallest variants in the Anubias family, typically staying under 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3 inches) in total height, making it a prized choice for nano aquariums and foreground detailing.
Care & Positioning Guidelines
- The Golden Rule: As an epiphyte, do not bury its horizontal rhizome in sand or gravel. Keeping the rhizome buried suffocates the plant, causing it to rot and die.
- Placement: Ideal for the foreground or wedged into tight crevices of hardscape. Use aquarium-safe super glue gel, thread, or fishing line to attach it to lava rocks or driftwood branches.
- Lighting: Low to moderate. Position it in partially shaded areas—such as under larger plants or driftwood arches—to prevent green spot algae from forming on its slow-growing leaves.
- Water Parameters: Extremely forgiving. It thrives in a temperature range of 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F), with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
- Nutrients: It absorbs food directly from the water column rather than roots. Regular dosing with a premium liquid fertilizer keeps the round leaves vibrant and healthy. CO2 is entirely optional.
