Anubias barteri var. nana 'Bonsai' is an ultra-dwarf, miniature cultivar that represents one of the absolute smallest varieties in the Anubias genus. Prized for its highly compact growth habit, it features tiny, teardrop-to-oval, dark green leathery leaves packed tightly along a creeping rhizome. It typically achieves a total height of just 3 to 5 cm (1 to 2 inches), making it the quintessential choice for micro-aquascaping and nano tanks.
Aquarium Requirements
- Lighting: Low to moderate. Intense, direct lighting triggers aggressive green spot algae and black beard algae over its slow-growing leaves. Place it under the shadow of larger rocks or taller canopy plants.
- Water Parameters: Exceptionally hardy. Thrives in a temperature range of 20°C to 28°C (68°F to 82°F), with a pH between 5.5 and 8.5.
- Supplements: Carbon dioxide (CO2) injection and heavy water-column fertilizers are entirely optional. It absorbs trace nutrients through its leaves, making occasional liquid all-in-one fertilizer dosing more than sufficient.
- Fauna Compatibility: Its tough leaf cuticle protects it from damage by curious snails, shrimp, or small nipping fish.
