Bolbitis heteroclita 'Asiatica' (commonly known as the Asian Water Fern or El Niño Fern) is a robust, highly textured aquatic fern native to Southeast Asia. Similar to Anubias and Java Fern, it is a strict epiphyte that features distinct, dark green, trident-shaped leathery leaves branching from a creeping horizontal rhizome.
Aquarium Requirements
- Lighting: Low to moderate. High-intensity lighting will quickly blanket its rigid leaves with stubborn green spot or black beard algae.
- Water Parameters: Temperature between 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F), with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. It prefers stable parameters; sharp fluctuations can trigger leaf melt.
- Supplements: CO2 injection is not mandatory, but it significantly helps the plant adjust to underwater life. Regular dosing with a comprehensive liquid fertilizer ensures it gets enough micronutrients directly from the water column.
