Cryptocoryne lutea (commonly known as the Yellow Water Trumpet) is a classic, bulletproof rosette plant native to the marshes and slow-moving streams of Sri Lanka. Unlike the Anubias and Bolbitis epiphytes discussed earlier, this is a true root-feeding substrate plant. It features long stems with narrow, pointed leaves that grow in a more upright, bushy structure compared to other crypts, reaching a height of 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches). Under higher lighting, its bright green leaves can develop subtle, attractive bronze-to-brown highlights.
Aquarium Care & Parameters
- Placement: Best suited for foreground to midground placement. It forms an excellent "filler" grouping around the base of your hardscape.
- Lighting: Low to moderate. It is highly adaptable and can easily grow under basic, entry-level LED aquarium fixtures.
- Water Parameters: Temperature of 22°C to 28°C (71.6°F to 82.4°F), with a preferred pH range of 6.5 to 7.5. It handles fluctuating water hardness exceptionally well.
- CO2 & Nutrients: CO2 injection is completely optional. It is a very slow-growing plant that requires minimal pruning or maintenance.
- Fauna Safety: Highly recommended for community tanks and shrimp setups. Its sturdy structure makes it resilient against typical plant-nipping fish.
